My report on why the Spanish wanted to come to the new world. At this time the Spanish economy was not at its high point this is before shiploads of gold were sailed across the ocean to Spain from Mexico and a few other places. This is one of the reasons however for the Spanish to come to the new world. They were desperately looking for a way out of their economy falling through the floor. The answer was simple to take part in the exploration of the new world in search of some means to regain wealth especially gold. Another reason is by no means least that they also wanted to convert these Indians to Christianity yet through the means they used in later years. You will see a theme in the list of Spanish explorers as I go on they all seem to have something in common The first one is Hernando De Soto. He explored the southeast part of North America. He was in search of gold and glory but found meager amounts of neither. Probably the crowning part of this exploration was they found the Mississippi river which was a large barrier and still is today. This is a close thought for one reason Hernando De Soto that crossed hundreds of miles succumbed to a fever on the banks of this river. Another Spanish explorer was Francisco Coronado he trekked trough the southeast looking for the same thing glory and gold over the two years he searched he found neither however one of the things he did was convert a few pueblo Indians to Christianity. These two exploros gave evrything they had to explor the new world looking for something they could hold on to and make them famous and wealthy. The one other signficant thing that happned was that these and mny other explorors of that time where looking for the same thing. This was called the northwetern passage to asia which they never found.
